ARCHITECTURE

Inter-War, Bungalow Porch House

No 35 Dalgety Street is a single storey house constructed in roughcast rendered brick and rendered brick with a hipped and gable tiled roof. It is a fine expression of the Inter-War California Bungalow style. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with an offset gabled entry porch. The porch is set on paired timber posts. There is an offset front door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and a casement window. There is a set of casement windows protected by a tiled sunhood. The roofscape features a rendered chimney. Originally the lower walls were face brick and the upper walls roughcast render. The lower walls have been rendered.

1939 The engagement is announced of Aleix (Jimmy), younger daughter of Mr. O. Carlson, of Ord-street, Fremantle, to Maurice A., younger son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Cairnie, of Dalgety street, East Fremantle. (reference)

1941 Embossed Cloque. The lovely ivory satin, used for the bridal gown worn by Miss Aleix Marie (Jimmie) Carlson for her wedding to Maurice Albert Cairnie, was a gift from the bride's aunt and the material is twenty years old. The frock was designed with uplift bodice and swathed hipline, forming a bustle at the back. She wore a top-knot to hold her veil in place, and carried gladioli and roses. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. O. Carlson, of Ord-street, Fremantle, and the groom the only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Cairnie, of Dalgety-street, East Fremantle. (reference)
