1929 Orange Delight

Got an honorable mention in the Sunday Times recipe Contest (reference)

Ingredients:

  • 6 Oranges

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1 pint (600 ml) milk

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon of cornflour

  • Extra teaspoon of sugar

Method:

  1. Cut the oranges into thin slices then pour sugar over them

  2. Boil the milk and add the beaten yolks only of the eggs plus the cornflour rubbed smooth in a little cold milk.

  3. Stir this constantly until it begins to thicken like custard then pour over oranges.

  4. Beat the whites of the eggs to a stiff froth, adding extra teaspoon of sugar

  5. Put on top of custard and set in oven to brown.

  6. Best eaten cold
