ARCHITECTURE

Federation / Interwar , Georgian Bungalow

No 23 Windsor Road is a single storey house constructed in brick and rendered brick with a hipped and gable corrugated iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style. It is asymmetrically composed with a full width return hip roofed verandah. The verandah terminates at a gable bay on the north elevation. It is supported on turned timber posts with post brackets. A vertical timber balustrade is set between the posts. There is a central door and hopper light flanked by sidelights and windows. The windows are double hung sash windows with sidelights. The roofscape features a pair of tall render capped chimneys. 

HISTORY

1910 Some Neighborly Amenities. At East Fremantle. Man gets the worst of it. At the Fremantle Police Court this morning, before Messrs, P. J. McLaren and S. Thomson, J.P.'s, Peter Mahon was presented on a charge of having assaulted Bridget Brady on July 22 at East Fremantle. Mr. Frank G. Unmack appeared for the prosecution. Bridget Brady, a married woman, said that she lived next door to Mahon in East Fremantle. Last Friday she saw him throwing sand over her children. She tried to protect them, and then he threw stones at her. (reference)

1928 Road Boards. Notice is hereby given that owing to the Withdrawal of Mr. L. W. Shearer's Nomination from the election to be held on Tuesday, 11th inst. no contest will be held for the Election of one member to fill the Vacancy in the Bicton Ward of the Melville Road Board…(reference)

1935 Shearer’s Garage. Nine years ago Mr. L. W. Shearer, a well-known East Fremantle resident, opened a small garage in Canning-road, near Petra-street, East Fremantle. His business has progressed to such extent that it is now located in modern and extensive premises a few doors from the original garage, which include a garage, repair shop, service station and showrooms. Mr. Shearer is assisted by his two sons, Messrs L. W. Shearer and L. R. Shearer, the latter a qualified electrician. (reference)

1935 The Friends of Mr. W. T. G. Weeden, of the Fremantle Harbour Trust, and Mrs. Weeden, of Windsor-road, East Fremantle, are respectfully informed that the remains of their late dearly beloved eldest son, Frederick William, of 66 Lawley-crescent, Mt. Lawley, will be interred in the Church of England portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery. (reference)

1936 The Late Mr. J. Brady.The funeral of the late Mr. John Brady, of 47 Second-avenue. Mt. Lawley, and formerly of the Commonwealth Audit Department, took place in the Roman Catholic portion of the Fremantle Cemetery on May 19. The late Mr. Brady was born in Fremantle and was the son of Mr Lawrence Brady and the late Mrs. Bridget Brady, who will be remembered as old residents of the Fremantle district. (reference)

1942 Death on December 11, at his residence, 23 Windsor-road, East Fremantle, William Thomas George Weeden, dearly beloved husband of Julia Weeden, loving father of Harold, May, Lionel, Harry and Jack (AIF) and the late Fred and Bertha, and fond grandpa of Bill and Ross; aged 83 years. (reference)

1944 Death on May 31, Marie Ann Bannister, of 23 Windsor-road, East Fremantle and formerly of Claisebrook-road, East Perth, widow of the late William David Bannister, formerly of the WA Government Railways; loving sister of Julia Weeden (East Fremantle), and fond aunt of Harold, May, Lionel, Harry and Jack Weeden (AIF): aged 85 years.
