ARCHITECTURE

Late Victorian / Early Federation / W Georgian Influences

No. 18 (previously was no. 44) Sewell Street is a single story cottage constructed in timber framing and weatherboard cladding with a hipped corrugated iron roof. The windows have been modified. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a central door flanked by sets of three casement windows. The facade features a full width skillion roofed verandah supported on steel posts. 

HISTORY

1927 Funeral. The friends of the late Mr. William James Baird, dearly beloved husband of Sarah, and fond father of James, Maggie, Jack, Ethel, and Phyllis, and father-in-law of Edward Bidstrip are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the place of interment, the Church of England Cemetery, Fremantle. The Funeral is appointed to leave his late residence, 44 Sewell-street, East Fremantle. (reference)

1928 A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. John's Church, Fremantle, on Saturday, July 7, when Ettie, second daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. J. Baird, of East Fremantle, was married to Leslie John, third son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gault, of Cottesloe Beach, the Rev. Collick officiating. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother. Mr. Jack Baird, looked charming in a heavily beaded georgette frock and silver shoes to match. She wore the customary wreath and veil and carried a bouquet of roses tinted with pink. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Phyllis Baird (sister of the bride) and Miss Grace Gault (sister of the bridegroom) (reference)

1941 Woman Injured At Zoo. While attending a carnival at the Perth Zoo yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Ettie Gault (35), of Sewell-street, East Fremantle, suffered an injury to her forehead and abrasions when she accidentally struck a post near one of the children's swings. According to a police report, Mrs. Gault attempted to pull her child out of the way of a swing and in turning round struck one of the uprights. She was afterwards taken by a St. Johns ambulance to the Perth Hospital for treatment. (reference)

1950 Mr. and Mrs. Gault of 18 Sewell-street, East Fremantle, have much pleasure in announcing the engagement of their eldest daughter, Norma, to James, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Moiler, 15 Victoria-street, Midland Junction. (reference)
