Inter-War Californian Bungalow

No 149 Petra Street is a single storey house constructed in brick and rendered brick with a hipped and gable corrugated iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a full width return hip roofed verandah. The verandah follows the form of the plan and terminates at thrust bays on both the north and south elevations. The verandah is supported on paired timber posts. A vertical timber balustrade spans between the posts. A section of the return verandah to the south has been enclosed. The front elevation features a prominent gable and a pair of double hung sash windows. The entry door is located on the south elevation under the return verandah. The lower walls are face brick and the upper walls rendered. The roofscape features a tall rendered chimney.

The verandah terminates at thrust bays at each end and is supported on paired timber posts. A timber balustrade spans between the posts. The half-timbered gable bays feature aluminium framed windows. The entry door is located on the south elevation under the return verandah. The windows are sets of casements except where they have been replaced with aluminium framed windows. It is an expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style with extensive modifications. The front elevation is asymmetrically planned with a thrust bay and a gable roofed porch. The half-timbered porch is supported on square piers set over a thickened pier. A rendered balustrade spans between the piers. A carport and additional rooms have been constructed to the front of the house on the south side. This has distorted the original expression of the house. The entry door is located under the carport and is flanked by windows.

The walls are rendered with a face brick band to the base of the wall. A carport has been sympathetically designed to the front of the house.
