ARCHITECTURE

Interwar Bungalow w Federation Influences

No 6 Oakover Street is a single storey house constructed in rendered brick with a hipped and gable corrugated iron roof. It is a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style. It is asymmetrically composed with a gabled thrust bay and a part width broken back roofed verandah. The verandah is supported on timber posts. Decorative trellis work and a balustrade spans between the posts. The gable bay features a set of casement windows under a sunhood. There is a centrally located front door flanked by windows. The roofscape features a rendered chimney.

HISTORY

1926 Funeral notice. The Friends of Mr. Reginald Stewart Pepworth, of the M.C.L. Print, Fremantle, and of Railway-parade, Spearwood, are respectfully invited to follow the remains of his late dearly beloved wife, Valma Rosetta, to the place of interment, the Church of England Cemetery, Fremantle. 1926 Spearwood Crossing Fatality. The District Coroner (Mr. H. J. Craig, B.M.), in the Fremantle Courthouse, on Friday, continued an inquiry into the death of Mrs. Alma (Valma?) Rosetta Pepworth, who died in the Fremantle Hospital on August 28, as a result of injuries Sustained in a collision between a motor car driven by her husband, Reginald Pepworth, and a train, at the Spearwood railway crossing, on that day. Dr. McDonald, a resident medical officer at the Fremantle Hospital, stated that deceased died from haemorrhage and shock following injuries. (reference)
