ARCHITECTURE

Federation / Georgian Influences

No. 56 (previously was no. 84) East street is a single storey house constructed in limestone and brick with a hipped tiled roof. It is a simple expression of the Federation Bungalow style. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a central door flanked by windows and sidelights. The front facade features a concrete verandah supported on steel posts over a concrete floor.

In 1933 John Payne moved with his family from the house next door to 54 (ex 82) From 1926-1927 he lived next door again at no 58 (no 86).

1928 Funeral Notice. The Friends of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Payne, of 84 East-street, East Fremantle, are respectfully invited to follow the remains of their late beloved daughter, Betty, to the place of interment, the Wesleyan Cemetery, Fremantle. (reference)
