ARCHITECTURE

Inter-War, Bungalow w Arts & Crafts Influences

No 24 Hamilton Street is a single storey house constructed in brick and rendered brick with a gable tiled roof. It is a fine expression of the Inter-War Bungalow style. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a half-timbered gabled room surrounded by a wrapping hipped roof verandah. The verandah is supported on twin posts set on rendered masonry piers. The facade features a central set of casement windows. The entry door is on the north elevation under the return verandah. The roofscape features brick chimneys.

HISTORY

1928 Dr. and Mrs. C. K. Dunkley entertained at bridge at their residence, Ellen-street, Fremantle, last Tuesday evening. The guests were the Mayor and Mayoress of Fremantle (Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Gibson), Mr. and Mrs. H. Daly, Mrs. H. E. Mombert, Messrs. Harry and Bingham Price, and Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Bennett. (reference)

1928 Yachting. Fremantle Sailing Club. The Fremantle Sailing Club will tender a send-off this evening to their Commodore (Major P. W. Dobson) who has been transferred to Victoria. The function will take the form of a smoke social, and all members arc asked to attend. (reference) The Fremantle Rowing Club presented Major P. W. Dobson with a handsome walking stick mounted in gold, and made of West Australian wood, upon his departure from the Port. (reference)

1930 For having committed a breach of the Health Act by failing to keep their children clean and free from vermin, Robert Lyon and John Plummer were each fined £2, with 3/ costs. (reference)
